The art program at Glades includes the study of 2D and 3D art courses and the various techniques and materials used by artists and craftspeople throughout history. Students learn different methods of drawing, painting, graphic design and commercial art. The students also learn plaster casting, ceramics, printmaking, basketry, weaving, textile design, carving, sculpture, and metal work. Art 1 which is 2D Art focuses on flat pieces like drawing and painting. Art 2 and Art 3(3D) are the Intermediate and Advanced students. In this class, the students work on more of the complex projects like metal work, sculpting, plaster casting, etc.
Digital Arts and Design class enables students to use their creativity using digital media. The students use computers, scanners, drawing tablets and Photoshop software to create original artworks.
During the year there will be various opportunities to display student work both in school and at student exhibitions in museums, gardens, and galleries. Students will also participate in digital exhibitions.
Students will have the opportunity to attend field trips to various art venues and create art work based on their visit. This art work will be exhibited at the annual Museum Education Art Show in the spring.
We also have an art club that meets on the first and third Monday’s of the month from 4 to 5 pm in room 110.
